The Financial Reporting department is seeking to fill the position of Accountant I/II, Financial Reporting. This position prepares and distributes financial reports and related external audit information for Auburn University.

Level I: Grade 32: $35,000 - $58,400
Level II: Grade 33: $39,300 - $65,500

Essential Functions:

1. Assists in preparing, editing, reviewing and publishing of the university financial statements (including all four divisions) following federal, state, and higher education reporting guidelines.

2. Assists in the monitoring of mandated federal compliance requirement for service centers, including preparation of the annual service center break-even analysis.

3. Assists in analyzing monthly balances for plant fund accounts.

4. Assists in various reviews and assessment activities to ensure departmental compliance with federal state and higher education reporting guidelines.

5. Prepares ad hoc reports, monthly reconciliations and analysis of financial data to include but not limited to revenue and expenditure analysis, calculating projections, and explaining variances on request to enhance administrative decisions effecting university wide policies and procedures.

6. Reviews journal entries, department error corrections, direct charges, and cash transfers for university transactions, including year-end audit adjustments and reclasses to ensure financial transactions are recorded properly and are in compliance with federal, state, and higher education reporting guidelines.

7. Assists in preparing footnotes and annual audit schedules for external auditors, internal auditors, and/or state examiners of public accounts. Assists in answering auditor questions about financial activity for the year.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or a degree in another field plus a CPA credential. Level I also requires 2 years' experience in financial reporting or auditing.

Consideration for Level II requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or a degree in another field plus a CPA credential. Level II also requires 4 years' experience in financial reporting or auditing.

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year
relevant education per year of required experience.
