The Accountant acts as a liaison with University Business and Finance with respect to journal entries, reporting, analysis and audit/reconciliation of accounts within the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs Unit (UANNP).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position.

Participate in developing, preparing, implementing, and monitoring the UANNP's budget. Ensure approved federal and state allocations are included in budget.
Monitor accounts to identify problems of expenditures or obligations of the University or organizational unit and funding agency/group and makes recommendations based on account review findings.
Maintain accurate financial records. Ensure reconciliation is completed as required.
Prepare and review expenses, invoices, purchase requisitions or other transactions for the unit in compliance with approved budgets and University procedures.
Review and submit travel expense reimbursement requests, P-Card authorization for payment, and other reimbursements as needed for unit operation.
Prepare status reports of expenditures, budgets, unit allocation reports, and other required financial data for Cooperative Extension Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional programs.
Coordinate with University Procurement, Contracts and Grants accounting, Budget Services, or other departments concerning accounting and financial information.
Ensure proper handling of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and approve within designated limits, policy, or contracts.
Assist in all audits generated by grant and contracting agencies and other organizations.
Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance to applicable policies, statutes, regulations and procedures formulated by the University, state and federal government, granting agencies, and various private foundations and industries.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and yearly financial closing processes.
May perform financial duties related to the unit's vehicle fleet to include: purchase, maintenance, and other necessary financial activities.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant discipline required. A non-relevant degree plus a CPA may be acceptable.
Minimum 4 years' experience, with at least 3 years prior experience in Accounting, Business Management, or Budgeting.
Significant demonstrated Accounting Literacy through previous job experiences.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in relevant field preferred.
Experience in accounting services is preferred.

Salary Range: Grade 4

$35,000 - $49,000, Salary commensurate with education and experience within the salary range.

Additional Information:

ALARY: $35,000 - $49,000, Salary commensurate with education and experience within the salary range.
