Job Description:
dormakaba is hiring a Senior Staff Accountant (Senior
Cost Accountant) in its Huntsville, AL facility. The
Senior Staff Accountant (Senior Cost Accountant) will
develop, administer, and maintain the cost accounting
system to ensure the accurate reporting of product cost
and inventory. Ensure accuracy of inventory records and
inventory valuation. Communicate information relating to
inventory and cost to all levels of management.
Additional duties include financial analysis, reporting
and General Accounting activities. Reporting to the
Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant (Senior Cost
Accountant) will work closely with Materials Management,
Production Managers, Manufacturing Engineers,
Information Systems and outside financial auditors.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the cost management function
including product costing, inventory valuation,
maintaining the cost system, evaluating standard
costs and coordinating inventory audits.
  • Assist company personnel with various financial
analyses including capital investment
justifications, make vs. buy decisions, process cost
reduction studies, inventory control/analysis, cost
of goods sold analysis, and budgeting.
  • Assist Controller and Materials Manager with
Inventory planning and forecasting as needed.
  • Provide product cost and inventory reports to
management throughout the organization to use for
tactical and strategic decision making.
  • Provide product cost and budget variance analysis.
Identify cost variance drivers and evaluate product
cost for potential reduction opportunities.
Participate in ABC cost studies as required.
  • Maintain the accounting system and standard costs to
ensure the integrity of inventory and cost reports.
Work closely with Information Systems to resolve any
system issues.
  • Prepare and provide to all appropriate management
staff, monthly inventory and cost reporting as
  • Annually, calculate and analyze manufacturing labor
and burden rates and identify the inventory impacts
to management.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of inventory
information. Work with I/S as required to resolve
any reporting issues.
  • Develop and maintain standard costs. Lead teams
consisting of Materials Management, Supply
Management, Manufacturing Engineering, and other
groups to revise standards as changes are
  • Prepare analysis and analyze standard cost vs.
actual cost variances using cost analysis software
and spreadsheet software.
  • Interpret, apply and maintain knowledge of
accounting policies and procedures.
  • Conduct and report results, conclusions and
recommendations of all special projects assigned by
the Controller and/or self initiative on a timely
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager to
support departmental goals.

  • Skills or experience with personal computers,
including electronic E-mail, personal scheduling,
word processing and electronic spreadsheet skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or ERP systems preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and
verbal are required
  • Working knowledge of standard accounting procedures
and practices
  • Working knowledge of standard cost accounting
systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to cultivate, maintain and enhance intra and
inter-departmental relationships at all levels in
the organization
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects and teams
with clear focus
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and make
sound decisions
  • Must be detailed oriented
Job Requirements:Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5+ years experience in product cost analysis,
inventory management, general ledger accounting,
financial analysis and budgeting.

Functional Requirements:
  • Must be able to manipulate a computer keyboard.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate via telephone.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Must have good vision with the ability to adjust to
focus, with close vision, with or without
