The operations manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and participative work environment. They are also responsible for ensuring product quality and food safety. They must be able to foster a positive regulatory environment to achieve volume requirement, analyze & communicate financial indicators, champion continuous improvement programs, develop capital spending programs and meet or exceed customer expectations and shareholder returns.


  • Works in concert with functional leaders to meet quality and food safety requirements.
  • Understands financial objectives of Wayne Farms LLC, develops long & short term plant financial strategies aimed to achieve objectives. Analyzes, communicates and makes recommendations to senior management, including complex manager.
  • Works in concert with functional leaders to comply with regulatory guidelines and fosters a positive working relations with local and state agencies including but not limited to USDA, OSHA and EPA.
  • Participates in development of Human Resource plans and organizational strategies.
  • Establishes Succession Plans and Employee Development programs.
  • Maintains a positive employee relations environment.
  • Develops and implements continuous improvement programs. Promotes a total process approach to manufacturing. Champions cross-functional knowledge, problem solving skills and understanding customer needs.
  • Leads the plant effort to develop short & long term strategies for plant capital spending. Ensures timely implementation and completion of capital projects. Evaluates cost savings vs. stated commitments.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Maintains safety and health programs for the location(s) under his/her management. Promotes and supports a participative program which encourages a high level of employee involvement.
  • Reviews production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
  • 3 to 8 exempt and/or non-exempt, management/supervisory staff. Indirect supervision of 750 + hourly and salaried employees


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology or closely related area.
  • 9 - 12 years relevant experience in Operations Management in a food processing industry.
  • 5 years experience managing 5 or more employees.
  • Strong business acumen including knowledge of finance, financial indicators, cost modeling and the like.
  • Demonstrated success in overall management of safety and compliance within a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of debone and IQF operations
  • Demonstrated success in project monitoring, follow up and closure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of interpersonal skills.


  • Spanish
  • Masters or MBA level education preferred
  • Experience with Collective Bargaining Units
