The purpose of this position is to serve in leadership, assisting the President/CEO to fulfill the vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the organization. The Vice President of Operations helps uphold and structures processes that support the organizational culture and values through administration of Health Care, Culinary services, Environmental services, and Community Life Services. With a strong focus on innovation, technology, finance, and management, this leadership role is responsible for overall operational performance. Success is established and measured through achievement of key strategic objectives including occupancy, resident and employee satisfaction, financial performance and strength, and philanthropic goals, in addition to accomplishment of strategic and long-range goals as established by the Board of Trustees.


  • Perform any duties of the President/CEO as required in his absence.
  • Oversee facility healthcare administration, with the Director of Health Services/Administrator as a direct report, ensuring clinical and service excellence and compliance with regulations and laws.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with residents, residents’ families, board members, staff, and community constituents, including business associates in the areas of health care/acute care, education/training organizations, third-party consultants and contractors, and the general public, reflecting organizational values of care, integrity, and respect.
  • Provide leadership in strategic planning and the development of priorities, objectives, and measurable goals to ensure continued long-term success of organization.
  • Assist in planning for capital projects and physical plant improvements and work with architects, engineers, consultants, builders, and financiers as necessary.
  • Ensure effective disaster and emergency preparedness for both human needs and physical plant protection. Ensure that disaster plans are established, maintained/updated, and tested as required and necessary for effective protection.
  • Oversee the development of and compliance with policies and procedures for clinical and other services at all levels of care, to include processes for admissions, transfers, and discharges, resident life and social services, and wellness.
  • Hire and train staff within organizational guidelines and culture.
    • Direct staff includes Director of Community Life and Compliance, Director of Health Services, Culinary Services Director, Environmental Services Director and Executive Assistant (shared with CEO).
      • Prepare written employee performance evaluations and initiate salary increases, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Ensure the effective communication of interdisciplinary care and service plans to ensure high quality resident and family relations and excellence in resident care and services. These communication processes include:
    • Care Plan meetings (assisted living and healthcare residents).
    • Resident status meetings (apartment and cottage residents).
  • Oversee the development and ensure the ongoing effectiveness of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement, ensuring the establishment of benchmarks and performance targets and upholding a positive, improvement focused approach to problems, concerns, and complaints.
  • Represent administration on the following committees:
    • Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI)
    • Board Finance
    • Board Compliance/Quality/Ethics
    • Resident Council
    • Strategic Planning
    • Safety
  • Ensure the development and implementation of resident satisfaction measures through various survey methods and approaches. Oversee effective performance improvement responses to issues identified and ensure successful communication of results and action plans to all stakeholders.
  • Partner with CEO and CFO to ensure the effective development of an annual budget and planned capital budget needs as well as multi-year capital projects. Ensure effective budget monitoring and departmental budgetary compliance. Review and monitor monthly/quarterly statistical and financial reports and key financial ratios/benchmarks.
  • Ensure that the buildings and grounds are maintained and that effective reinvestment is planned and implemented in order to meet established occupancy and financial targets as well as high resident satisfaction with the Community environment. Work with designers and architects as necessary to achieve the aesthetic desired and in keeping with beauty of the overall Community.
  • Oversee the effective administration of technology to support clinical and all operational functions required, including seeking knowledge and engaging third-party experts when necessary to ensure the pursuit of appropriate, innovative and efficiency-enhancing technology, as well as ensure resident satisfaction with WiFi, cell phone reception, and cable and telephone service.
  • Serve as one of four facility authorized check signers.
  • Assist department directors in reviewing clinical staffing needs for Myers Hall, the Read Cloister, and Arcadia Close. Approve expected staffing benchmarks for all departments.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and periodic review of agreements for healthcare-related contract services from external sources.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among staff and with other operational departments.
  • Cultivate a culture of care and service throughout staff and community.
  • Maintain good interdepartmental and employee relations.
  • Maintain regular and open lines of communication with direct reports and all staff in order to provide direction, guidance, and general information as needed.
  • Observe safe facility practices at all times.
  • Assure departmental and community compliance with all Resident Rights regulations.
  • Participate in staff functions as necessary as a member of the administrative staff of this facility.

  • Adhere to established facility and departmental safety policies and procedures.
    • Participate in facility fire drill procedures.
  • Perform all responsibilities with adherence to Resident’s Rights and HIPAA.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct exhibiting a respectful and courteous demeanor at all times.
    • Adhere to the Bishop Gadsden dress code policy and BG approved attire.
  • Participate in educational and departmental opportunities.
    • Attend mandatory continuing education sessions.
    • Attend department meetings and/or educational opportunities as required.
    • Attend facility functions and demonstrate interest in Bishop Gadsden activities.
  • Show evidence of working as a team member.
  • Adhere to attendance and scheduling requirements.
  • Accept additional duties as necessary in a cooperative manner.
  • Observe fiscal responsibility in use of Bishop Gadsden resources and purchases made on behalf of Bishop Gadsden.


  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
  • Ability to direct daily activities with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work with computer programs as needed.


  • Minimum 5+ years’ progressive experience in executive level senior living and health care administration/management.
  • Master’s Degree in business, healthcare administration or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree with relevant certifications, significant continuing education and substantial and progressive experience may be considered.
  • Licensed as Nursing Home/Community Residential Care Facility Administrator by state authorities.
  • Experience/proven successful outcomes with Medicare part A short-term post acute rehab services including achievement of consistent 4-5 star ratings.
  • Evidence of success in strategic and capital planning, including innovation and technology advancement.
  • Proven success in values-driven leadership and establishing and upholding a culture of support, mutual care, excellence, growth and safety for our community of employees.
