About the Function

The primary responsibility of the Senior International Tax Manager is to maintain all aspects of domestic tax accounting, compliance, and planning for both federal and state. He/she will support the Senior Tax Director and help execute the overall Cyxtera business strategy and US tax function in an efficient and cost effective manner. In addition, the role of the Tax Manager includes:
  • Preparation and/or oversight of the Global consolidated financial reporting obligations and separate legal entity reporting of US income taxes that is delivered to attest auditors.
  • Preparation and/or oversight of the US income tax, indirect tax and property tax compliance processes.
  • Providing tax related guidance for matters affecting the corporation, its employees, and shareholders.
  • Help develop and execute the US tax planning strategy with the goal of reducing or deferring income taxes.
About the Position

Job Responsibilities, Results & Performance Measures

Optimize Tax Department: Work with the Senior Tax Director to optimize the tax department by implementing a co-developed strategy over our in-sourced/out-sourced resources and participate in building a world class corporate tax department.
Control costs of external consultants

Financial Reporting: Manage the GAAP quarterly and annual consolidated global tax provision and related disclosures. Analyze potential tax exposures and determine appropriate tax reserves under ASC 740 and ASC 450. Prepare executive management reporting and analytics on the effective tax rate and other desired information reporting.
Accuracy of quarterly and annual filings
Improved efficiency and timeliness of quarterly and annual filings.

Accounting: Responsible for maintaining overall compliance with tax related SOX 404 internal controls, proper documentation and testing. Coordinate with internal and attest auditors for proper control testing. Maintain income tax account reconciliation policies and processes. Monitor current tax accounting rules, SEC reporting pronouncements and federal and state income tax law to ensure proper application of the law to the tax accounting provision and compliance processes.
Increase effectiveness and limit risk of quarterly and annual filing.
Accuracy of account balance reconciliations.

Domestic Tax Matters: Partner with the federal and state income tax compliance process including tax returns, estimates and extensions. Setup a standardize process to be leveraged for both provision and compliance while mitigating potential tax exposures. Drive special projects such as analysis of income tax transactions, acquisitions, divestitures, or projects related to other business initiatives.
Reduction of penalty and interest assessments through proper and timely filings.
Reduction in tax liability through implementation of tax planning ideas.
Reduced audit assessment through negotiation or protest.
Reduction in ETR through tax efficient strategy and initiatives.

International Tax Matters: Manage the international tax team and/or external consultants to gather necessary data to support the computation or analysis of international initiatives. This also includes the preparation and review of the calculations related to the US tax consequences of foreign transactions for both compliance and provision purposes.
Increased cash flows from improved management of domestic compliance related to international initiatives

Management: Collaborate across the business and internal business functions (Finance, FP&A, Legal, etc.). Manage, train and develop staff to support their career growth and personal goals. Develop hands on working knowledge of SAP, ONESOURCE Tax Provision, ONESOURCE Income Tax, and Sharepoint (or other electronic process management and document management system). Ensure the tax department successfully meets budgeted objectives and planning responsibilities.
Proper management of staff though established goal setting and review process.
Effective management of tax budget.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, MBA or JD
  • CPA Required
Professional Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of diverse international tax experience with extensive corporate experience managing domestic reporting of income taxes and working knowledge of international taxes
  • Big 4 public accounting preferred
Knowledge
  • Support all facets of international tax accounting under ASC 740 and the related SEC reporting requirements including the preparation of global tax provisions, analysis of current and deferred taxes, calculation of interim period forecast FIN 18 effective tax rate and preparation of tax-related disclosures in SEC filings.
  • Maintain inventory of Uncertain Tax Positions and all related supporting documentation for the Company.
  • Reconcile tax accounts on a quarterly basis.
  • Coordinate and prepare income tax inclusions and Foreign Tax Credit calculations
  • Proactively identify, recommend and implement process and tax systems improvements.
  • Prepare and review international components of the US Federal tax return including: Forms 5471, 5472 and 1118, including performing detail reviews of forms and underlying work papers. Strong knowledge of the current FASB interpretations and U.S. GAAP rules (e.g., ASC 740, ASC 450, ASC 805).
  • Proficient in Sarbanes Oxley 404 rules and their application to all tax functions (to ensure IPO readiness).
  • Ability to decipher complex tax law and determine its past, present, and future effects on the company.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of federal, state and some exposure to international tax laws.
  • Strong knowledge of US tax reform and it’s consequences on US provision and compliance obligations.

  • Proficient in technology based tax software, excel spreadsheets, and internet based research tools
