Job Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting and Finance Department through researching and analyzing accounts, and preparing Financial Statements.

Essential Job Duties

1. Maintains the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules in SYSPRO; provides monthly detail for general journal entries; insures proper recording of new purchases and disposals.
2. Manages employee credit card applications and charges.
3. Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts; and preparing manual checks.
4. Prepares and analyzes account reconciliations including bank and petty cash accounts.
5. Prepares and posts journal entries, including payroll.
6. Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; and reconciling accounts.
7. Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports and verifying information.
8. Prepares reports detailing monthly expenses by cost center.
9. Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes.
10. Assists in preparation of quarterly and annual entries and filings.
11. Prepares tax schedules and applies basic knowledge of tax rules, to assist in Corporate tax reports and returns.
12. Researches and collects data to be used in transactions.
13. Assists with monthly close.

Additional Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs ad hoc analysis and reporting.
  • Assists with any other duties or projects as assigned by the Controller and/or Chief Financial Officer.

Roles

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of GL trial balances.
  • Manage capital projects/improvements to completion; maintaining fixed assets and depreciation.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements including month and year-end activities.
  • Assist Controller with cash and credit line management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required;
  • Three or more years of Accounting/Finance experience required;
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of accounting standards and practices;
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate between departments, and with individuals from various levels of the organization;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required;
  • Highly-organized, detail and goal-oriented, with ability to work under deadlines;
  • Excellent critical thinking, data analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced computer skills including an intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word required; ERP system experience preferred with ability to manipulate large databases;
  • Proficient skills in using general office equipment including desktop, telephone, printer, copier, fax, scanner, etc.
