The purpose of the Senior Payroll Clerk position is to provide complete payroll administration support for Vulcan and to ensure continual compliance with Company policies and procedures and federal/state regulations.

Essential Duties:
1. Maintains and updates the HRIS files ensuring all information is accurate, current and complete and being able to generate required reports from the database such as employee benefit statements when needed.

2. Processes employee payroll based on determined guidelines that dictate the methods by which payroll is administered in regards to amounts, withholding, etc. and correcting any problems/errors identified.

3. Processes all vouchers that impact employee payroll such as garnishments, bankruptcies, child support, tax levy's, etc. ensuring that all vouchers are current and legitimate and are accurately deducted during the payroll process.

4. Ensures the payment of all federal and state payroll taxes and other deductions through utilizing the established procedures and ensuring all deductions are properly made and recorded.

5. Responsible for completing various federal forms such as the 941 and 940 by compiling required data, making any calculations, verifying all information and submitting the forms within required time frames.

6. Receives, researches, and answers employee inquiries and requests (written or telephone) regarding various payroll related matters and referring any questions to Human Resources or other designated individuals when needed.

7. Reconciles the general ledger accounts on a regular basis ensuring all data entered is accurate and current and takes required steps to address and correct any identified discrepancies.

8. Maintains communication with the Controller and other applicable contacts regarding the payroll and other related activities and being prepared to develop, print and deliver any requested reports/forms.

9. Primarily responsible for answering the main phone line into the Company and quickly and accurately routing incoming calls to applicable personnel to ensure their questions, comments or concerns are effectively addressed.

10. Provides backup support to the accounts payable/accounts receivable functions when needed ensuring all applicable procedures and protocols are adhered to during the completion of job tasks.

11. Performs additional job related and/or non-job related functions when needed or requested.
Minimum Experience And Qualifications:
High School Diploma / GED
1. A two (2) year Associates degree and/or vocational-technical school involving related coursework is preferred.
2. Ability to perform basic to complex math calculations utilizing a calculator or other similar devices.
3. Knowledge of applicable accounting software that includes various Microsoft products.
4. Knowledge of payroll procedures and practices such as general calculations, deductions, withholding, etc.
5. Knowledge of wage and hour compliance requirements and their applicability.
Proven problem solving abilities as they pertain to payroll and AR/AP functions.
