Job purpose

The Staff Accountant fulfills an integral transactional and reporting function in the Finance department. This role touches all aspects of accounting from Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Accounts Receivable, Journal Entries, Tax Reporting, Monthly Account Reconciliations, Reporting, Operations assistance, and other special projects as needed.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Reviewing and verifying accuracy of invoices and check requests; Entering and posting payables transactions into accounting system; Investigating issues related to cash disbursements; Preparing and performing check runs; reconciling Accounts Payable transactions to GL balance; Researching and resolving invoice discrepancies.
  • Prepares monthly invoices to customers in accordance with contract terms. Performs regular follow-up to ensure payments are received.
  • Posts payments to customer bookings based on cash receipts and receivable terms where applicable.
  • Assists with month-end close by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and variance analysis.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly financial reports as required internally as well as by various regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains historical records by filing documents.
  • Assists with customer travel document disbursement and customer care letters.
  • Performs other administrative and operational duties as required. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of MS Excel or ability to learn.
  • Must have strong numerical aptitude; good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills; strong observation and analytical skills with creativity; good organization skills with an attention to detail; ability to work independently, under pressure and effectively handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Desire to work in the travel and tourism industry is definitely a plus
